Hips Don't Lie πΊπ½
Why are hips so important? They're involved with everyday movement and posture.
Hips are important for posture, walking, squatting, and running.
Pelvis position can impact the surrounding muscles in your thighs & lower back.
How Can the Position of Your Hips Throw Your Whole Body Out of Alignment?
Let's Say You Are Postured In A Posterior Tilt:
β‘οΈ You may have too much hamstring tension. Hamstrings are the muscles at the back of your thigh. If your hamstring muscles get too tight this can make your hip drop too much resulting in low back pain.
Let's Say You Are Postured In An Anterior Tilt:
β‘οΈ Anterior tilt can be caused by excessive sitting or lack of physical activity. If you are seated for a large portion of your day, your hip flexor muscles (muscles in the front part of the hip) can start to tighten and stay in a contracted position.
β‘οΈ Similarly, the muscles of the low back are going to be put under increased stress while your lower spine is in an exaggerated curve which can also cause low back pain!
What Can Happen To Your Muscles If They Stay In A Stretched Or Tightened Position?
ππΌ These compensation patterns can lead to an imbalance in your lower limbs & cause lower back pain.
ππ½ββοΈ Stretch weakness develops from muscles remaining in an elongated position, even if just slightly beyond the physiologically normal resting position.
π£ Tightness that develops from muscles remaining in a shortened position and is called adaptive shortening. With time this can create a contracture that may need a physical therapist to assist with stretching out.
What Can You Do About It?
π¨ Before you go down the rabbit hole of self-diagnosis: You can see that there is a lot that could be contributing to your hip, knee, or low back pain.
Specifically, it could be Hamstring, Quadriceps, Gluteus Muscles, Sitting Posture, Walking Pattern, Workout Program, Sleep, Nutrition, Muscles Being Weak or Overpowering, and the way you walk just to name a few!
Don't waste countless hours, days, weeks, years, or even decades being frustrated or avoiding the activities you love because you're trying to figure it out on your own. Especially when there's a simple solution and one we can help you find (without the headaches, frustrations, and time away from the active life you want to be living)!
